The Art Of Reconciliation and The Science of Communication

Karen Valencic's programs are based on fundamental elements of eastern martial arts along with basic principles of western technology. Karen began her study of aikido in 1990 and is affiliated with Thomas Crum and Aiki Works, Inc.

"Aikido" can be translated from the Japanese to "the way of life through the blending of energy." It was created in the mid-twentieth century by Morihei Ueshiba, one of Japan's greatest martial artists. The philosophy of aikido is to resolve conflict in a way that honors rather than destroys life. Instead of being an art of self-defense, aikido is an art of self-development. It requires many years of study, for learning to maintain your sense of self while engaging another person in an honorable way can be very challenging.

Karen has learned that when we apply aikido concepts to conflict, there is no conflict.

Karen also brings her experience from her years in the automotive industry to her programs. As one of the first women engineers at Delco Remy, Karen was quite a pioneer. Using scientific basics as well as communications techniques developed during her career, she has created a solid program of conflict resolution for both simple and complex issues. Studying with Karen offers participants skills in empowerment, inquiry, cooperation, influence and leadership. When these skills are consistently applied to everyday life, it is easy to let life work!
